Congratulations to Naiem Nassiri, M.D., F.S.V.S., R.P.V.I. at the The Vascular Care Group, who performed Stamford Hospital Cath Lab’s FIRST TEVAR. The dissection was treated with a hybrid arch repair utilising a Terumo Aortic Lupiae graft in the ascending. Dr. Nassiri selected a RelayPro device for the extension due to its atraumatic inner sheath to track precise graft delivery through an angulated arch.

Genicular Artery Embolization (GAE) is a novel minimally-invasive procedure that provides pain relief for patients suffering from osteoarthritis. This procedure aims to reduce blood flow to the lining of the knee, known as the synovium. When done properly, by qualified physicians, this DOES NOT affect the blood flow to the leg. 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗚𝗔𝗘? Genicular artery embolization involves injecting tiny particles into the genicular arteries, which supply blood to the knee joint. By doing so, it reduces inflammation and pain associated with osteoarthritis. 𝗪𝗵𝘆 𝗜𝘁’𝘀 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗲? GAE blocks blood flow to the inflamed synovium in the knee. While it may not treat the underlying cartilage destruction, initial trials show promise in managing symptoms. Pain scores have significantly decreased after GAE, providing relief for patients who are not ready for knee replacement surgery. GAE is performed by our board-certified vascular surgeons using special X-rays and other imaging modalities while under ‘twilight’ sedation as an outpatient procedure. During the procedure, a small catheter is inserted into the patient’s upper thigh artery, the catheter is guided to the arteries supplying the knee lining. Once there, tiny particles are injected to reduce blood supply and inflammation. Relief typically begins within one to two weeks as inflammation decreases. 𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗮 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗶𝗱𝗮𝘁𝗲? • Those who need to increase activity before knee replacement but are limited by pain from doing so. • Those who are not candidates for knee replacement due to other medical conditions. • Those who have failed other conservative measures such as steroid injection. • Those who continue to have some residual pain AFTER knee replacement. Remember, this innovative procedure offers hope for those seeking relief from debilitating knee pain and it’s now performed in the comfort and convenience of The Vascular Care Group offices.
