Bridgeport resident Michelle Harris has been named the latest winner of First County Bank’s FirstPrize $avings account drawing, receiving a $1,000 prize. The announcement was shared by Yesenia Mendiola, Assistant Branch Manager of First County Bank’s Connecticut Avenue-Norwalk location, who noted that Harris was surprised and grateful to learn of her win, adding that the timing will help offset unexpected expenses.

The FirstPrize $avings account encourages customers to build savings while earning entries into quarterly $1,000 drawings. Each deposit of $25 or more qualifies as an entry, with one winner selected each quarter. The $1,000 prize is deposited directly into the winner’s account for immediate use.

Rowayton Arts Center “Realism” Exhibition Opens March 15

A new show at the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC), “Realism,” will be on view March 15 through April 4, 2026. This exhibition features realistic art by RAC Exhibiting Members.

The opening reception is free and open to the public on Sunday, March 15 from 4 pm to 6 pm. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 5 pm and Saturday from 10 am to 1 pm.

RAC celebrates the study, creation and appreciation of the arts through classes, exhibitions and events open to all in the community. For over 60 years, this nonprofit organization has been a cultural gem in Rowayton, CT. Since 2013, Filling in the Blanks has provided weekend meals to nourish children year-round. This February, they are kicking off the annual SOUPer Bowl drive to see how many cans of soup the community can “score” to feed local kids.

In celebration of the 2026 Super Bowl, they are collecting 10–12 oz cans of Tomato Soup and Chicken Soup for their weekend meal bag program. Community members, friends, families, and classmates are encouraged to participate.

DVCC Teen Events Highlight Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month

The Domestic Violence Crisis Center (DVCC) will host a free Teen Movie Night on Tuesday, February 27, from 5–8 pm. at Sono Collection as part of Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month (TDVAM) activities. This event provides a safe and engaging space for teens to gather, learn, and connect.

In addition, DVCC encourages the community to participate in Wear Orange Day on Tuesday, February 10, to show support for healthy teen relationships and raise awareness of teen dating violence.

WBDC Launches Next Round of Ignite Grants for Women-Owned Businesses

The Women’s Business Development Council (WBDC) opened applications for its Ignite Grant Program with a deadline of March 18.

The Ignite Grant Program provides up to $10,000 to women-owned businesses in Connecticut that have been operating for two or more years, with revenues between $25,000 and $2 million. Since its inception, the program has awarded 469 grants totaling over $4.3 million to support business growth.

WBDC will host weekly one-hour informational webinars throughout February and March. There will be six sessions in English and three sessions in Spanish to guide prospective applicants through the process.

Rowayton Arts Center “Abstraction” Exhibition Opens February 8

A new show at the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC), “Abstraction,” will be on view February 8 through March 7. This all media exhibition features artwork by RAC Exhibiting Members with a larger degree of independence from visual references.

The opening reception is free and open to the public on Sunday, February 8 from 4-6pm. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12-5 pm and Saturday from 10am-1 pm.

Norwalk Hospital Opens Cohen Pediatric Emergency Center with $1.74 Million Grant

Norwalk Hospital, part of Northwell Health, has opened the new Cohen Pediatric Emergency Center, made possible by a $1.74 million grant from the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation. The center enhances seven remodeled emergency rooms, each equipped with pediatric-focused equipment and marine-themed murals in partnership with the Maritime Aquarium to create a comforting, child-friendly environment.

The center also expands behavioral health resources, including a Child Life Specialist to provide therapeutic play, education, and reassurance for children and their families. Short observation care is available for common illnesses such as asthma, croup, and dehydration, with access to over 20 pediatric specialties for follow-up care through Connecticut Children’s.

Staffed daily from 11am-11 p.m., the center ensures specialized care close to home. After hours, Norwalk Hospital’s Bauer Emergency Care Center continues to provide pediatric care 24/7.

Norwalk Symphony and New Paradigm Theatre Present Guys and Dolls

The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra and New Paradigm Theatre Company present a one-night-only performance of the classic musical Guys and Dolls on Saturday, February 7 at 7:30 pm. (snow date Sunday, February 8 at 2:00pm) at Norwalk Concert Hall, 125 East Avenue.

Musical Director Jonathan Yates and Stage Director Kristin Huffman lead a stellar cast, including Desi Amato as Miss Adelaide, Heidi Giberson as Sarah Brown, Jeremiah James as Sky Masterson, and Brian Ray Norris as Nathan Detroit, alongside student and adult actors from New Paradigm Theatre.

Tickets start at $10 for students and children and $25 for adults. Attendees are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item for donation to The Pantry at CT State Community College at Norwalk. This year, the Riverbrook Regional YMCA is the performance’s nonprofit partner.

Union Savings Bank Deepens Commitment to Fighting Hunger

Union Savings Bank recently made a major impact in the fight against food insecurity through its 6th annual Feeding Our Neighbors initiative, collecting 1,000 pounds of nonperishable food and donating $100,000 to 20 local food pantries across the region. Each organization received $5,000, including Person to Person’s Norwalk Food Pantry, directly supporting families in need within the community.

By activating all 25 Union Savings Bank branches, the initiative quadrupled last year’s financial support, increasing total donations from $25,000 to $100,000. In addition to monetary contributions, customers and staff helped bring the program’s six-year food collection total to nearly 5,000 pounds. Through the bank and the USB Foundation, more than $450,000 has now been contributed to local pantries, reinforcing Union Savings Bank’s ongoing commitment to strengthening and supporting the communities it serves.

The Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk Presents “A Night At the Mansion”

The Junior League of Stamford-Norwalk is honored to host their annual Founders’ Day Charity Event on Saturday, February 7, 2026, at the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion Museum, a national historic landmark and a place rooted in JLSN history.

Decades ago, Junior League Members joined local advocates to help save the Mansion when the construction of Interstate 95 put the building at risk. Hosting the event within its walls is a meaningful way to honor the generations of women who came before, and the legacy they helped protect.

The City of Norwalk is preparing for its 2026 Norwalk Restaurant Week, scheduled for January 20–23 and January 27–30, 202!. This year introduces a dedicated marketing campaign and parking vouchers for participating restaurants.

Rowayton Arts Center: Holiday Gift Show (Dec. 5-24)

The Rowayton Arts Center (RAC) presents its annual Holiday Gift Show, featuring original, handcrafted works from more than 50 local artists and artisans. Visitors will find ornaments, seasonal décor, jewelry, ceramics, knitted goods, cards, prints, paintings, and a curated selection from the Rowayton Gardeners. Proceeds support RAC and its educational outreach programs.

The show opens Friday, December 5, from 12–5 PM. Weekend hours continue with Saturday, December 6, from 10 AM–7 PM for Light Up Rowayton, and Sunday, November 28, from 12–5 PM. Norwalk Symphony Orchestra Presents "Holiday Pops" Concert

The Norwalk Symphony Orchestra invites the community to a festive holiday performance on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at 3:00 PM at Norwalk Concert Hall. Audiences will enjoy seasonal favorites from Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker and Handel’s Messiah to Sleigh Ride, Jingle Bells, and more! The performances will feature choruses, dancers, vocal soloists, and a special guest in red. The afternoon concludes with a joyful audience sing-along.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early for a Suzuki Cello School prelude performance and to bring a non-perishable food donation for The Pantry at CT State Community College Norwalk.

Spirit of the Season: Supporting Children Through the Holidays

Filling in the Blanks has been nourishing children year-round since 2013, and this holiday season their mission continues with the Spirit of the Season campaign, running now through December 12, 2026. The organization will deliver warmth, comfort, and nutritious weekend meals to more than 10,000 children through its Weekend Meal Bag Program, and invites the community to help ensure no child goes hungry during the holidays.

Next Sunday, October 5, 2025, the SoNo Half Marathon will take place throughout the South Norwalk area. Residents and visitors should expect road closures and traffic delays across the course, so plan accordingly. The event brings runners and spectators together for a day of fitness and community spirit, but everyone is encouraged to allow extra travel time and use alternate routes if possible. Rowayton Arts Center “Autumn Juried Show” Exhibition Opens October 12

A new show at the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC), “RAC Masters,” will be on view October 12 through November 8, 2025. This open theme all media exhibition features artwork by area artists chosen from online submissions.

The opening reception on Sunday, October 12 from 4 pm to 6 pm is free and open to the public. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 5 pm plus Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm.

RAC celebrates the study, creation and appreciation of the arts through classes, exhibitions and events open to all in the community. For over 60 years, this nonprofit organization has been a cultural gem in Rowayton, CT. The gallery and art school overlook the scenic Five Mile River at 145 Rowayton Avenue with space for regional artists to exhibit their art and a classroom for workshops and classes at all levels offered to children and adults.

The Norwalk Seaport Association Launches 1st Ever Oktoberfest Celebration in Norwalk

The Norwalk Seaport Association is bringing the spirit of Bavaria to Norwalk with its first-ever Oktoberfest Celebration on Sunday, October 5 from 3–6 PM at 314 Beer Garden. Guests will enjoy unlimited beer, wine, cider, and soft drinks alongside bratwurst, sauerkraut, warm pretzels with beer cheese, and wood-fired pizza. All proceeds benefit the preservation of the historic Sheffield Island Lighthouse and support the Association’s educational programs.

The Women’s Business Development Council (WBDC) is proud to announce that applications are now open for the Ignite Grant Program! Designed to fuel the growth of women-owned businesses in Connecticut, the program awards up to $10,000 to eligible businesses that have operated for at least two years with revenues between $25K and $2M.

RAC Artists Talk with Ben Larrabee & RAC Masters Opening Reception

Celebrate art and storytelling at the Rowayton Arts Center this September! On Wednesday, September 10 at 6 p.m., join RAC member and photographer Ben Larrabee for a special Artists Talk as he shares the intimate journey behind his new book, Trudie: A Portrait. For nearly 30 years, Larrabee has photographed his wife, Trudie, capturing what he calls “Moments of Grace”—fleeting glimpses of their life together. This free event includes stories, insights, and refreshments as he reflects on what he describes as a “milestone” project.

Volunteer with the Exchange Club of Norwalk at the Oyster Festival

The Exchange Club of Norwalk is looking for helping hands at their food booth during this year’s Norwalk Oyster Festival. As a chapter of a national civic organization dedicated to family, community, country and by a mission to prevent child abuse, the Exchange Club of Norwalk depends on both its members and local volunteers to help power one of its largest annual fundraisers.

Volunteers receive free admission to the festival, plus complimentary food and beverages while working the booth. Anyone 18 and under is welcome to help out (excluding cooking and cashier duties). This is a great opportunity to give back, connect with others, and make a difference in the Norwalk community.

The Norwalk Conservatory of the Arts Announces Broadway In the Park is Back!

Presented by The Norwalk Conservatory of the Arts, this family-friendly event returns for three Saturdays, August 16th, 23rd, and 30th, with music, food, and fun for all ages. Each afternoon begins at 3 PM with kids’ activities and food vendors, followed by live Broadway-style concerts from 4–6 PM featuring songs from beloved shows like Wicked, Frozen, Moana, Hamilton, Encanto, and more.

Performed by the talented students of the Norwalk Conservatory, the concerts offer an unforgettable experience under the summer sky. Children are encouraged to come dressed as their favorite characters for a chance to meet them after the show! General admission tickets are $25 for adults and $15 for kids, with VIP options available. Sponsorships start at $250.

Thrown Stone Presents the CT Short Play Fest

Head to the Crystal Theatre in South Norwalk on Saturday, 8/2, for a day packed with bold new plays, quick changes, and unforgettable performances. The day features 11 brand-new plays, 8 actors, and 37 characters that are all brought to life in a high-energy, fast-paced format that’s full of surprises and fun.

Catch original works by talented teen and young adult playwrights at 2 PM, then come back at 6 PM to see professional performers take the stage with their own spin. Tickets are $29 for one performance, or $50 for both.

Rowayton Arts Center “Photography & Sculpture” Exhibition Open Through July 20

A new show at the Rowayton Arts Center (RAC), “Photography & Sculpture,” will be open through July 20, 2025. This exhibition features artwork by area artists selected from online submissions by juror Christa Dix, Executive Director at the Griffin Museum of Photography in Winchester, Massachusetts. Gallery hours are Tuesday through Friday from 12 to 5 pm plus Saturday and Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm.

RAC celebrates the study, creation and appreciation of the arts through classes, exhibitions and events open to all in the community. For over 60 years, this nonprofit organization has been a cultural gem in Rowayton, CT. The gallery and art school overlook the scenic Five Mile River at 145 Rowayton Avenue with space for regional artists to exhibit their art and a classroom for workshops and classes at all levels offered to children and adults.

The Center for Contemporary Printmaking Presents 15th Biennial Miniature Print Exhibition

The Center for Contemporary Printmaking invites the community to celebrate small-scale printmaking on a global stage with the opening of its 15th Biennial Miniature Print International Exhibition on Sunday, June 1st.

Since 1997, this juried competition has showcased the power of prints no larger than four square inches, challenging artists to distill their vision and inviting viewers to explore fine detail. This year’s exhibition features 89 works by artists from 11 countries and 21 U.S. states, selected by juror and print expert Ann Shafer.
