FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Mory Negron Joins STAR as Director of Residential Services for People with Intellectual Disabilities

Moraima “Mory” Negron joins STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way as Director of Residential Services supervising thirteen group residences and a variety of independent living arrangements in apartments and condominiums in Norwalk, Westport, Wilton, Weston, Darien and New Canaan. Mory brings a wealth of human services experience and a growth mindset to the residential program with plans to expand and enhance the independent living program as part of the STAR Residential Services Program. Mory is a Bridgeport native and graduate of Sacred Heart University in Fairfield with her BS in Business Administration. She has worked in the nonprofit sector for twelve years starting at Goodwill Industries and, most recently, serving as Director of Adult Services at The Kennedy Center in Trumbull. Mory is excited to join the STAR team and looks forward to working closely with staff, clients and their families/caregivers.

“I am thrilled to be a part of the STAR team,” says Mory, “I look forward to directing STAR’s robust residential program and working to facilitate more people with intellectual and developmental disabilities to live independently and have the necessary supports to thrive in the community. My previous experience has inspired me to take my business administration, auditing and compliance skills to benefit and improve the lives of people with special challenges and unique abilities.”

“We are delighted to welcome Mory into our organization,” said Katie Banzhaf, STAR Executive Director. “She brings incredible energy and expertise to her new role, and I am sure she will serve as a thoughtful leader for her team, and the employees she will directly oversee. I anticipate an excellent working relationship with Mory as she serves in her capacity as our new Director of Residential Services.”

Celebrating its 70th Anniversary, STAR was established in 1952 by parents who believed that children with intellectual and developmental disabilities are entitled to the same basic opportunities as other children. Today, STAR, Inc., Lighting the Way is a not–for-profit organization that has grown to include a full array of services for over 600 individuals with disabilities, from birth to their senior years and their families. STAR’s mission is to create opportunities for individuals to live full lives with independence, freedom of choice and personal growth by providing support, services and advocacy. They inform and encourage the community to recognize and appreciate the value of all individuals. Services include early intervention pediatric therapies; family support services; high school transition, job assessment and training; assistive technology evaluations, adult day services, recreation; and residential support to adults in group homes and apartments.
